Bread & Roses Volunteers Among Nominees With Heart

Sally Peter and Alan Thomas have been nominated for the Heart of Marin awards, to be presented in January.

Music — powerful and vibrant, funny or sad — is a part of our daily lives. It's on the car radio, in our iPods, in the elevator. Corte Madera's Bread & Roses made its mission to ensure that no one should live in a world without music.

The non-profit provides free, live shows for people in institutions, hospitals, jails and schools throughout Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, Sonoma, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. In its stated mission, "Bread & Roses seeks to create a social awareness of people who are isolated from society, and to encourage the development of similar organizations in other communities."

Bread & Roses has earned recognition for its good deeds in the past, and is again being honored.

“Nonprofit leaders and volunteers work extremely hard to meet the growing needs of our community," Linda Davis, the center's executive director, said in a statement. "It is important that we take the time to recognize them for their dedication and admirable achievements.”

Local singer and actor Noah Griffin will emcee an awards ceremony and luncheon unveiling the winners on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Marin Center Exhibit Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased at the center's website or by calling 415-479-5710.
