Feeling Good at Flower & Food Festival
The Larkspur Community Association hosts the 22nd annual Larkspur Flower & Food Festival
It was a beautiful sunny Marin County Sunday afternoon for the 22nd Annual LarkspurFlower and Food Festival. Magnolia Avenue between Ward and King Street was packedwith food tents, craft booths, a kids zone, large music stage and many happy festivalgoers of all ages.
The James Mosely Band played as the street in front of the stage became a large dance floor. Sidewalks were filled with people talking, drinking, eating and shopping in local stores. Rullis was filled inside and out.
Last week at the the Halau Hula Na Pua O Ka La’akea shared their Polynesian dancing and this week their booth was making and selling flower leis. Kalei told me, “Today we are making leis … it's another part of the Hawaiian culture that we are sharing.”

I asked Tamara Holland why she was sporting a t-shirt that read “Let’s Talk Twitter.” She told me about her new endeavor she calls twitter quest, “Twitter quest comes from my love of Twitter and my fascination with how people hook up and meet each other on it. I am just a random person out on the street asking people if they are on Twitter.”
When I asked her about the fair she added, “I think this fair is awesome. I like the mix of the high-end art and the baked sale goods. It’s fabulous!”

The Larkspur Heritage Board was selling the updated edition of Larkspur Past and Present: A history and walking guide. Author Helen Heitkamp told me, “This is the 4th edition of the book… We are unique, we are not just the past, but we are the present. We bring the history up to now … in between all the historical facts we bring in memories andfunny stories. And we have included 600 pictures.”
The book is available at Larkspur City Hall, the Larkspur Library and Book Passage. There is an about the book at the Corte Madera Library on June 2.
The junior varsity cheerleading team was there selling baked goods.
“We are raising money for the Redwood JV Cheerleading Team for our uniforms for next football season. Everyone brought something throughout the day, but mainly we baked everything,” said Mackenzie, who was there with team members Mariah, Samantha, Lauren, Shauna and Max.
One of the girls added, “It is fun cheering in front of the crowd, bonding with the team, talking with each other and learning more about each other.”
I happened upon Brian from San Rafael, who had just arrived a the festival to volunteerfor the Corte Madera Twin Cities Co-op Kids Zone for his children's school. He shared, “It should be fun because it is a beautiful day!”
There was a kids area complete with a handson nature area, face painting, snow cones, large jumpy and more.
Cathy and Derek Jacobson of Kentfield were at the festival with family and friends. Cathy, with her newly-purchased copy of Larkspur Past and Present, told me, “Our neighborhood is in the book! … It's our first time here and we are having a wonderful time.”
Derek added, “I just like all the good vibe that’s here, the music is terrific, the booths are really interesting and I’m having a nice drink of local brew. I couldn’t be happier.”
Sharlene Wachs of Kentfield summed up the day, “I am having soooo much fun, because I just had a margarita and I am... reeeeeally feeling good!”
It was a wonderful beginning of Summer event. The Larkspur Flower and Food Festival is the Bay Area’s longest running festival and it was clear to see why.
