Around Town Feb. 2-3: Start the weekend with a treat during a food and beer tasting at Book Passage.

 

 

• L'Chaim! Enjoy a drink with author and brewer Jeremy Cowan at Book Passage in Corte Madera on Friday at 7 p.m. Cowan, author of Craft Beer Bar Mitzvah, shares his brewing tips and the tale of "How It Took 13 Years, Extreme Jewish Brewing & Circus Sideshow Freaks to Make Shmaltz Brewing Co an International Success."

• The Marin Municipal Water District Board of Directors will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to consider increasing water rates by 6.5 percent, beginning May 1. The board will meet at the district office, 220 Nellen Ave. in Corte Madera.

• This year’s choice for One Book, One Marin is The Oracle of Stamboul, an acclaimed first novel by Michael David Lukas. Drop by Book Passage in Corte Madera on Thursday at 7 p.m. to hear tales of the Ottoman Empire.

• It's a great Twin Cities showdown when the Giants visit the Wildcats in a Marin County Athletic League basketball doubleheader on Thursday. Marin Catholic hosts the Redwood girls at 6 p.m. The boys tip off at 7:30 p.m.
