The Tavern at Lark Creek hosts Bread & Roses Happy Hour Benefit

It was a beautiful late summer evening as many gathered on the Creekside Patio of The Tavern at Lark Creek, during a special Happy Hour event, to support the Bread & Roses organization.

Under the shade of Redwood trees, the sounds of the Rant Brothers’ acoustic guitars filled the air.  This Marin County based acoustic guitar duo, featuring Michael Creamer and Tom Holmes, are also volunteer performers for the Bread & Roses organization.

Susan Gilardi, of Larkspur, and Chair Emeritus for Bread & Roses told me, “I love this organization.  I love what they do…they bring hope and healing to people in isolation…everyone that works there really walks the walk…they are a great group of people and I believe in what we do.  We bring magic into people lives, we bring roses, the beauty, the sustenance, the hope…"

There were special Bread & Roses tip jars, and a few of the board members and staff personally prepared and served up drinks.  Marian Hubler of Bread & Roses told me, “We have special drinks to benefit Bread & Roses…We are here tonight to support our program.  All the proceeds from this special happy hour will come to our organization.”

Michael Harlock, of Corte Madera, was there to support this event.  He told me, “I have admired Bread & Roses for many years, back with Mimi Farina….I’m an amateur musician and my great dream is to play my horns well enough to someday contribute my skills to Bread & Roses.”

Linda Kosut, a San Francisco based jazz/cabaret vocalist, is a volunteer performer for Bread & Roses.  She told me, “The first time I performed for Bread & Roses was in 2005…I go to nursing homes, hospitals, rehab centers, all over the Bay Area…I love singing and I love to give my gift of entertainment to people who wouldn’t ordinarily get it…I love giving…”

Ken Harrison, of San Francisco, has volunteered for Bread & Roses for over 30 years.  He shared, “I remember the first day I volunteered and met Mimi Farina and the staff, and I said, ‘Who are these wonderful people?’  There was a wonderful feeling being around them and that feeling continues today with the current staff…it’s all the good work they do and I have been privileged to be in some of the shows they have put on for institutions…and I have seen the reactions of  people and how they respond so well to live music…it brings a breath of fresh air into their lives.”

Everyone enjoyed the lovely evening, the special happy hour drinks, the wonderful music, and meeting others who support this wonderful Corte Madera based organization.
