Renewable Energy Debate Continues

Larkspur residents might have another source for electricity if the City joins the Marin Energy Authority.

Residents have been suggesting to the Larkspur City Council that the city find a way to invest in cheap, clean energy. The Marin Energy Authority is giving the City a chance to make that happen.

The MEA is offering a limited amnesty period to allow towns and cities to join without paying a membership fee of $20,000 to $40,000. Larkspur would have to accept before Nov. 7 to take advantage of the offer. The Town of Corte Madera is also considering the offer.

The City Council meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall to discuss the offer.

The Town of Ross voted Friday to accept the deal. The MEA includes the County of Marin, Mill Valley, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Sausalito, Tiburon, Fairfax and Belvedere. The mission of the non-profit group is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop renewable energy sources.

If Larkspur joins the group, residents of the city would have the option to buy electricity from the MEA instead of PG&E.

The City Council will also take up options to fill the impending vacancy that will be left when councilmember Joan Lundstrom leaves office Oct. 15.

Can anyone explain WHY someone wouldn't want to vote yes on this little poll. Why they would want to deny their fellow citizens the chance to have more sustainable energy sources...

I hear ya GrannyBG, but I think the more appropriate question would be~ Why would anyone deny their fellow citizens a chance to have a choice?

Hmmmm.... Monopoly or a chance to have a choice? A vote in the matter; a tiny bit of people power back to the people...? Options, alternatives? An opportunity to make decisions that can effect life as we know it and in a possibly positive way?!?! I don't know; this is difficult... Just thinking about the choice to have another choice! My brain hurts! What do you think? I forgot how to think for myself...

Let's get active and reactivate our minds! Let's look at the true cost of things! And as it's said~ "A mind's a terrible thing to waste" and so is our planet! So say "Yes!" to choices. Give hope for our children and future; today!
