Will The June Elections Bring Change?

District 4 Supervisor Steve Kinsey stands on his experience, while challenge Diane Furst says enough of the same old politics.

Our mailboxes are starting to fill up with campaign flyers with just under a month left before the June 5 election. In the Marin County District 4 Board of Supervisors race, incumbent Steve Kinsey and challenger Diane Furst, the Vice-Mayor of Corte Madera, are stepping up their push for office. "One of the distinguishing differences between us is whether you believe change is needed because of experience. I feel (my experience) has been useful especially in finding funding for projects like the Greenbrae Interchange," Kinsey said. "I'm looking out for Corte Madera and Larkspur. I want to make sure the Twin Cities … keep moving forward." District 4 is certainly the most far-reaching territory as it includes Corte Madera, Larkspur, Kentfield…

Kinsey is talking out of two sides of his mouth. He says, "Although there's an effort to make this (campaign) about ABAG, people seem to understand the value of regional planning as long as there's local control," He voted with Judy Arnold to usurp local control and to streamline developer projects without resident's input. Clearly Kinsey and Arnold are pro-developer over the voters. This was …   more ›

Furst Gathers Key Endorsements

Corte Madera Vice-Mayor picks up support from the Sierra Club and the Marin Democratic Party as she builds momentum for her run at the Board of Supervisors.

Diane Furst seems to be constantly on the go these days, and she's picking up some momentum for her election campaign to the Marin County Board of Supervisors. The Corte Madera Vice-Mayor, who also serves on the Transportation Authority of Marin Executive Committee among various other boards, recently picked up endorsements from the Sierra Club and the Marin Democratic Party. Furst was scheduled to appear in Point Reyes on Thursday morning during a meet-and-greet with residents to drum up support for her campaign for the District 4 seat, which represents Corte Madera, West Marin, Homestead Valley and portions of Novato. She's hosting a fundraiser at her home in Corte Madera on Sunday at 3 p.m. Furst has stated in her newsletter that her …

I agree, although I see that: Steve Kinsey works with constituents - wink, wink, nod, nod - especially a powerful few. He listens, and listens, and listens, then champions special interest development -- Substantive concerns are drowned in fuzzy, feel-good, 'sustainable' slogans. This pattern has become quite transparent to anyone still paying attention. I support Diane for her gumption and …   more ›

Furst Ready To Take Fight To Incumbent Supervisor

Corte Madera Vice-Mayor who has tackled ABAG and TAM is now challenging Steve Kinsey for the District 4 seat in the November election.

Diane Furst is being pulled deeper and deeper into the political arena, but she says she's ready to meet any challenges. "It's interesting. This has always been in the back of my mind," Furst said after announcing her entry in the race for the Marin County Board of Supervisors seat for District 4. "A couple of things happened within the past couple weeks that really brought it to the front. I started getting calls from people begging me to run. A lot of people are dissatisfied with what's going on with the Board of Supervisors. Also, I have been dissatisfied with the way the Board of Supervisors are handling things." Corte Madera's vice-mayor since just after the November elections, Furst is the lone challenger to incumbent Steve Kinsey, …

LOL, people clearing their cache and voting multiple times does not produce anything near reality. Not only is this not a scientific poll, it is not even a poll. I'm sure with a little bit of work the Patch could conduct a more scientific poll. This is laughable.   more ›

UPDATE: There was a last minute addition to the District 2 Supervisor race that didn't make it into our article. Long, 69, is serving her fourth term on the COM board after being elected with the most number of votes this past November. -- For the first time in 29 years, there will be a seriously contested election for the District 2 Supervisor seat. I'll be voting for Davied Weinsoff. He has the legislative record, the environmental record, and has demonstrated the courage to stand up for necessary change even in the face of entrenched opposition. He is the candidate of positive change as opposed to business as usual.   more ›

New Councilmember Enjoying Big December

Less than a week after the birth of his son, Brad Marsh is appointed to the Larkspur City Council to fill Joan Lundstrom's seat.

It took a little longer than he might have liked, but Brad Marsh is now on the Larkspur City Council. Marsh was appointed unanimously Wednesday night by the four sitting councilmembers to fill the seat vacated by Joan Lundstrom. He will serve a two-year term. "The tax code will be something I'll want to get digging in on, but we've got a lot of other things, the Marin Energy Authority. There are a lot of people who are still concerned about the Central Marin Sanitary Agency and the Ross Valley Sanitary District and we want to resolve any conflicts there." Marsh was a candidate for City Council on the Nov. 8 ballot, but finished third in voting behind Mayor Larry Chu and newcomer Ann Morrison. He did receive strong support from the local …
