In the fight against climate change, the world cannot wait for some hoped-for perfect solution in the future. The crisis is upon us, and we need action now. We need as many different strategies, tools, and ideas as possible; and we need them working right away. We need an all-of-the-above solution. One such solution is the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). The VCM is not the solution to climate change. But it is a solution. In “Carbon Done Correctly,” Richard H. Lawrence, Jr. introduces the VCM through the lens of unsung heroes around the globe who are on the front lines of the fight against climate change. You will be inspired by the stories of the work that people are doing to combat climate change, and you will see how the VCM provides an essential tool in helping them, and other people in the future, continue and improve that work for the benefit of our planet. 
 
About the Author
Richard H. Lawrence, Jr., is a director and co-founder of several non-profit organizations with specific focus on climate change mitigation. In 2004 Richard and his wife, Dee, founded Proyecto Mirador Foundation, a non-profit that has built over 300,000 fuel-efficient stoves in rural communities across Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua. In 2016 the Lawrences founded Cool Effect, a non-profit online platform that enables individuals, SMEs and Fortune 500 companies to offset their carbon emissions through the highest quality carbon reduction projects worldwide. In 2017 they established High Tide Foundation, a non-profit organization involved in the fight against climate change. In 2020 Richard founded the non-profit Carbon Mapper, which develops satellite technology to pinpoint and track point source emissions, particularly methane. In 2021 he helped establish Global Methane Hub with over $200 million in philanthropic funds to support methane advocacy and mitigation.

The planning team from&nbsp;First Presbyterian San Rafael’s One World, One Spirit invite the community to spend a day with Mark Yaconelli - the warmest,&nbsp; truest “storycatcher" on Saturday, May 18th, 9:30 am - 2:30 pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;As Mark says, “The soul speaks in stories, not in abstract ideas. Stories can access parts of ourselves and of others we didn’t know were there. There’s a whole landscape inside everyone just hoping for a listener who can ask the right questions.”&nbsp;&nbsp;Mark will show us how to deepen relationships and cultivate compassion through listening and telling our stories.
Mark Yaconelli is a writer, retreat leader, community builder, spiritual director, husband, and father. He is the founder and executive director of <a href="https://thehearthcommunity.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Hearth</a>. Previously, he co-founded and served as program director for the <a href="https://www.centerforengagedcompassion.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Center for Engaged Compassion</a> where he helped develop a unique set of practices and training programs for assisting individuals, organizations, and communities in cultivating compassion.
Mark speaks to a variety of audiences each year across North America and the United Kingdom including The Greenbelt Arts Festival,&nbsp; The Ford Family Foundation, The National Youth Workers Convention, Princeton Theological Seminary, The Global Gathering for Spirituality and Justice, and many other events and organizations.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Calling all nature lovers for our last broom pull of the season! Our grassy meadows are home to sun-loving plants and animals and are hunting grounds for birds of prey. The fruits of our open canopy hardwoods - oak, bay and madrone trees - nourish abundant forest wildlife. Help us improve these oak woodland and grassland habitats near Phoenix Lake by removing invasive French broom. Uncover healthy plant communities that support a high diversity of wildlife, preparing them for success in the new year.
We will start our morning overlooking Phoenix Lake. If driving, please arrive at Natalie Coffin Greene Park between 8:40 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. We will have the gate open to allow volunteers to drive up the fire road and park next to the dam. Folks arriving after 9 a.m. or leaving before noon will need to manage their own parking.
Registration is encouraged but not required. The event is family-friendly! Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and volunteers under age 18 must bring a permission form signed by a parent or guardian. Tools, gloves, snacks and water are provided. Please dress for variable weather and bring a personal water bottle. We welcome the rain and will only cancel if extreme winds or heavy downpour is expected!
