<table><tbody><tr><td align="center" valign="top"><table><tbody><tr><td align="center" valign="top">Are you passionate about preserving our community’s natural treasures? Join us for the Wall Property BioBlitz, an exciting event organized by the Fairfax Open Space Committee in collaboration with Fairfax Parks and Recreation.
What is a BioBlitz?
This is an activity where regular folks learn to be citizen scientists by using an app called iNaturalist on a smart phone to collect data on the fauna and flora in an area. The data is then fed into a National data base, helping to corroborate the lands biodiversity. This then allows one to substantiate the value of preserving the land as a priority conservation area which then underscores its merit as dedicated open space to the government as well as giving it more consideration to receive grants, funding, etc.

It's also really fun, a valuable skill, and a cool way to spend time together. Kids love it.
The more identifications you makes also gives a higher observer status, so you start as an amateur, and actually can reach expert levels, becoming a real citizen scientist. So, we have pointed at large piles of plum-pitted scat locally, and had the source identified as "Ursus americanus" or black bear (!). You can record bird songs, photograph feathers, or holes in the ground and it will tell you what animal made them as well as identifying all kinds of plants. 
What’s Happening
With various experts and artists, we’ll be exploring the Wall Property to document its rich biodiversity and stunning beauty. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to use the iNaturalist app on their smartphones. By contributing to our database, you’ll will help build support for the preservation of this valuable area.

All ages are welcome to join in the fun, and children are especially encouraged to participate.

Weather is forecast for cool but sunny,wear layers, bring sunscreen and water

9 am – 1pm Spring Plant Swap with Seed &amp; Soul Club
Located in the Picnic Grove at Marin Art and Garden Center, this annual event is an opportunity to grow your collection and share with other enthusiasts; bring cuttings, plants, pots and accessories to swap. Registration ($26.50) is required but you don’t have to bring plants to swap. All proceeds from the sale go right back to support the gardens!
