Critically Acclaimed San Rafael Author to Lecture at Dominican

A critically acclaimed San Rafael author will appear at Dominican University next week.

Marin’s Isabel Allende will participate in the Spring Leadership Lecture Series at Dominican’s Angelico Hall on February 6.

Allende will present her latest novel, Ripper, an atmospheric, fast-paced mystery involving a brilliant teenage sleuth who must unmask a serial killer in San Francisco.

Tickets for the Allende event are $32, which includes an autographed copy of her newest book in English or Spanish.

The speaker series, a cooperative effort between Dominican’s ILS and Book Passage, features some of the country's leading figures from the worlds of business, politics, entertainment, academia, and literature.

It has entertained and educated thousands of Marin County and San Francisco Bay Area residents.

All lectures are open to the public. The Allende lecture begins at 7 p.m. in Angelico Hall on Acacia Avenue. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Free parking is available on campus in the nearby Conlan Center parking lot at the intersection of Acacia and Grand avenues.

Last April, Allende appeared in Angelico Hall on the day her last book, Maya’s Notebook, was released.

Her books of fiction and non-fiction are celebrated throughout the world.

She is the recipient of several awards, including The John Steinbeck Prize, The Hans Christian Anderson Prize, and 14 honorary degrees from national and international universities, including Dominican.

Allende, who created The Isabel Allende Foundation to empower women and girls worldwide, is the author of 20 books that have been translated into 35 languages and sold more than 60 million copies.

Two of her books have been turned into international movies.

The ILS Spring 2014 Leadership Lecture Series is sponsored by Private Ocean, the oldest and largest privately-held wealth management firm in Marin County. Private Ocean’s commitment to community service has been a driving force behind its support of the lecture series.
