Daily Planner: How Fast Is Your Car?

Test your mettle during the Wednesday Night Drags ... if you dare.

Here are some of the highlights happening around the Larkspur and Corte Madera Twin Cities area August 7-8:

It's time to try something a little different perhaps. Take your car or motorcycle up to the dragstrip at Race Sonoma for the Wednesday Night Drags. The competition is open to street-legal vehicles.

There's also a chance to race against a squad car during the Top the Cops challenge, which pits high school students head-to-head against police from around the Bay Area.

The races will be aired live on www.1320go.com starting at 4 p.m.

• Youth Writing Workshop: Karen Benke says "Leap Write In" with her Experimental Writing Camp for the Middle School Crowd. The four-week class starts Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Book Passage in Corte Madera. The focus will be on tapping into inspiration and technique to create poems, mini-memoirs, and imaginative sketches. The camp is limited to 12 students. The fee is $200.

• Library Story Time: The Corte Madera Library has a very full schedule this week. Mother Goose entertains young children and parents on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Crosspulse Rhythm Duo arrives with its freestyling musical beat at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Kids Book Club meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a discussion of No Talking, by Andrew Clements.  In this comic tale, the noisy fifth grade boys of Laketon Elementary School challenge the equally loud fifth grade girls to a "no talking" contest.  Please call or visit the Library to sign up in advance.

• Prenatal Yoga: Exercise your body and soothe your soul during pregnancy. Drop by YogaWorks Larkspur for a prenatal yoga class Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. Meet other pregnant women and enjoy a circle of support. Please contact Janna Barkin directly for more information about prenatal yoga, mom and baby yoga, and also childbirth preparation classes at 415-898-3555, or jannabarkinyoga@gmail.com. The fee is $22.

• Poetry Show In Larkspur: The traveling show arrives in Larkspur with some of the most engaging poets from around Marin County. The Larkspur Library will host the Marin Poetry Center Summer Traveling Show on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Catlyn Fendler, will host local Marin poets Calvin Ahlgren, Gabrielle Rilleau, Robin Jacobson, Sandy Scull, Susan Terris, Laurel Feigenbaum. The poets will read selections from their own works.

• Farmers Market: Get your shopping list together — and make sure to include some fresh fruit — before heading over to the Corte Madera Farmers Market at the Town Center. Fresh produce, including figs, oranges, berries and more, is available every Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. Check out the Recipe of the Week every Saturday for tips from the farmers market.
