Fighting The Family Cold

Around Town Feb. 23-24: Healthy families, voices for women's rights and more in our town this week.

• Moms, learn how to stay healthier and how to prevent your children's colds and what strategies work to boost their immune systems. Dr. Michelle Perro M.D. and Dr. Myrto Ashe, M.D., M.P.H. lead this two-hour Modern Moms Health Forum on Thursday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m., at the second-floor community room in the Town Center. A $5 donation is suggested at the door. Babes in arms are okay.

• Eve Ensler, the Tony Award-winning playwright of "The Vagina Monologues," will appear at Book Passage in Corte Madera on Friday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m., to discuss her latest work and the power that drives her to fight for women's rights. Tickets are $35.

• The life and work of David Johnson has been captured in a short documentary, "Positive Negatives", produced by Mindy Steiner and you're invited to a special screening and wine 'n cheese evening on Friday, February 24th at Corte Madera's Hillside Church at 7:30 pm. Hillside Church is proud to tell David Johnson's story, and especially within the month of February 2012, designated "Black History Month." Mark this date in your calendar. This is a free event.

The Larkspur Walkers welcome you to join them on walks that start and finish at Piper Park. The group walks approximately 3 miles within an hour, and routes include some hills and easements staircases as well as level ground.  Meet at the east end of the parking lot, near the picnic area. Arrive 5 minutes early for easy warm-up exercises before the walk. If you would like to join the Larkspur Walkers, contact the Larkspur Recreation Department or come directly to Piper Park and ask for Nancy Spivey, leader of the group.
