Grow Your Green Thumb At The Fair

Around Town July 3-4: The Marin Master Gardeners offer helpful hints to keeping bees, growing fruit trees, and more.

Get pretty much everything you need from the experts to ensure a bountiful garden harvest.

The Marin Master Gardeners are at the Marin County Fair through Thursday, with a series of tips and lectures on how to make the most of your garden.

Noon: Thinking About Bees In Your Backyard?
An essential role in growing edibles and ornamentals is that of pollinator. Learn from Jenna Brager, Farm Coordinator and Beekeeper at Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden, about getting started with a beehive and providing a pollinator habitat for the bees (including native bees). Time to get buzzing with these important creatures!

2 p.m.: Give Trees a Chance… Let All Your Hard Work Bear Fruit
Whether you garden in a large back yard or in pots on your patio or deck you can grow your own fresh fruit. Henry Wallace, Farm Supervisor, Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden, will discuss everything you need to know about what fruit trees grow best in Marin and in what kind of conditions.

4 p.m.: Ten Essential Ingredients for Healthy Plants
Whether you’re growing edibles or ornamentals or both there are some basics that are essential for healthy plants. Hear Master Gardener Dave Phelps discuss what requirements all plants need and leave with a list of what to do in planning and planting a balanced and flourishing garden.

• Giggles at The Village hosts an interactive story time every Wednesday at 11 a.m. The event is free.

• The Corte Madera farmers market at the Town Center will be a great place to celebrate the Fourth of July on Wednesday. Pick up just about everything you need for a holiday meal, fresh from local farms and ranches.

• Looking for a prenatal yoga class? Join Janna for prenatal yoga at YogaWorks in Marin Country Mart on Tuesday. The class will include an introduction to yoga postures and sequences specifically for pregnancy. The Larkspur Walkers welcome you to join them on walks that start and finish at Piper Park. The group walks approximately 3 miles within an hour, and routes include some hills and easements staircases as well as level ground.  Meet at the east end of the parking lot, near the picnic area. Arrive 5 minutes early for easy warm-up exercises before the walk. If you would like to join the Larkspur Walkers, contact the Larkspur Recreation Department or come directly to Piper Park and ask for Nancy Spivey, leader of the group.
