I AM...

Visits with my Grandson...Number Thirteen

My amazing, creative, loving and joyful nine year old grandson, Evan, is in 3rd grade.  He was given an assignment at the end of this school year to write a poem entitled I Am.  The following is his poem:

I Am

By Evan LoRusso

I am joyful and loving.

I wonder if a star will burn out.

I hear graceful spirits whisper.

I see beautiful sun spirits.

I want to go to Jupiter and stay alive.

I am joyful and loving.

I pretend to fly in the sky.

I feel all Nature’s roots connected to my body.

I touch my family spirit’s hand.

I worry if an asteroid will crash into the Earth on December 21, 2012.

I cry when I get hurt.

I am joyful and loving.

I understand some people’s anger.

I say God and Christ are real.

I dream I can be an artist.

I try to do my best in school.

I hope I will reach the stars.

I am joyful and loving.

After I read the poem I was speechless, in awe and moved to tears.  My daughter-in-law, Amber, texted me, “…I really could feel your influence in the way he views himself. So grateful…I read it to my friend at work and she teared up and said, ‘he’s a happy person’…”

Yes, my grandson is a happy person and I greatly appreciate being a joyful influence in his life…and, he in mine.

Until next time, remember, it’s all “for the love of kids…”

In joy, Marilyn
