Love, Money and the Blues

Around Town March 27-28: There's something for everyone at the Corte Madera Library and the Lark Theater this week.

Author Jeanne Walker Harvey reads My Hands Sing the Blues: Romare Bearden’s Childhood Journey at the Corte Madera Library on Tuesday, March 27, at 3:30 p.m.

• Join James Sokol at The Lark Theater for a tour of the world of opera. Enjoy Manon on Tuesday, March 27, at 1 p.m. and consider with Sokol the theme of true love vs. money.

• There's a reason Marin Catholic has been one of the most dominant baseball teams in the Marin County Athletic League for years. Check out how the Wildcats stack up this year when they host Novato on Tuesday, March 27, at 4:30 p.m.

• It's still a little early for local Spring vegetables to appear at the farmers market, but there are some surprising and tasty finds. Look for greens to highlight any salad — lettuce isn't the only vegetable around. Asparagus is also starting to show up in stalls. Look for deals every Wednesday, noon to 5 p.m., at Town Center Corte Madera's farmers market.

• Enjoy the adventure of kayaking southeast Alaska, without all the hassle of packing, cold weather and dangerous animals. Visit REI in the Town Center on Wednesday, March 28, from 7-8 p.m. for a scenic and exciting presentation. And, if you feel like heading to snow country after that, you can pick up everything you need at the store.

I'm grateful for the help I've received at Marin Cancer Institute. Congrats to Dr. Gullion and,Read More really, to everyone who helps us fight cancer.

Prop 37 would have exempted "organic" food from the labeling requirement. What sense doesRead More that make? (Answer: none.)
