Peppermint's Dark Side At Book Passage

Music journalist Joel Selvin discusses how the Mafia controlled the rock scene in New York.

Here are some of the highlights happening around the Larkspur and Corte Madera Twin Cities area Nov. 19-20:

Does anyone know more about the history and culture of the pop music scene than Joel Selvin? He's interviewed some of music's greatest legends and is well-known for his newspaper column and his radio show.

In his latest venture Selvin, with journalist John Johnson Jr., uncovers the darker side of music. They'll be at Book Passage in Corte Madera on Monday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. to present Peppermint Twist: The Mob, the Music, and the Most Famous Dance Club of the '60s. The Peppermint Lounge was a famed midtown Manhattan nightspot and mobster hangout. Mafia kingpin Johnny Biello and his son-in-law Dick Cami brought the rock and roll scene to New York with their Manhattan club that echoed with music, fun — and scandals.
