Start Smart Before Getting Behind The Wheel

Around Town March 13-14: CHP is offering a teen driver safety course; Larkspur Library Book Club takes a visit to Paris.

 

• The California Highway Patrol will host its free "Start Smart" teen driver course on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in its Corte Madera office. The class is designed to show teens — and their parents — the responsibilities and challenges that come when you get behind the wheel of a car. Parents and new drivers interested in attending must RSVP by March 13 by calling 924-1100.

• The Corte Madera Planning Commission meets Tuesday, March 13. The agenda includes a proposal to relax parking restrictions for residential additions and discussions regarding the construction at Nordstrom's.

• The Larkspur Planning Commission also meets Tuesday with a relatively light agenda. A resident of Diane Lane wants to install a swimming pool.

• Mother Goose is on the loose at the Corte Madera Library every Tuesday at 10 a.m. for storytime for babies 0-24 months old, with a parent or caregiver.

• Children ages birth through 30 months and their caregivers are invited to join together for a half-hour storytime just right for the youngest patrons. Baby Bounce is a lively mix of songs, nursery rhymes, fingerplays and very short books. Baby Bounce is held regularly on Tuesdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Larkspur Library.

• Planning a trip? Try Utah. REI in the Town Center will host the free class "Exploring Utah's Canyon Country and Beyond" on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. Space is limited and registration is recommended.

• If you've been dreaming of a trip to France, try reading The Great Journey: Americans in Paris. The Larkspur Library Book Group will discuss the David McCullough book on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. The selection for April will be Crooked Letter Crooked Letter, an award-winning mystery set in the South, by author Tom Franklin. In May the group will be discussing The Paris Wife, by Paula McLain.
