Community Corner

Summer Music Series at Town Center

Sunday afternoon live music at Corte Madera Town Center brings community together

Sunday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. are filled with live music, dancing, food, and fun at the Summer Music Series.  Every Sunday through September different artists are performing for an extremely appreciative community audience in front of the clock tower, around the elephant fountain.

The tables and chairs are filled with all ages of music lovers having come by foot, car, bike and even scooters. There are families with kids and dogs, seniors from nearby homes, and shoppers wandering through. Many are drinking coffee and beer and snacking on food from nearby eateries.

This past Sunday a large audience enjoyed The Soul Shine Blues Band, from Santa Rosa. This fun five-piece band performed songs from legends as well as original pieces, while onlookers danced and swayed in their seats.

“I wouldn’t miss it (weekly music) for anything…I have been coming every Sunday for years,” said Gabrielle Claeys of Corte Madera.

Jane from Mill Valley, plays Bingo with Gabrielle and said, “I come every week, last year and the year before… I love the music and I like to shop.”

Charleen Fisher, from Tiburon, shared, “I started coming midway last year, never missed it and this year, I waited for it to be advertised and I haven’t missed it this year either. It’s just soooo relaxing. Actually I leave feeling so good because I have been bouncing in my chair and feel like I just had a good workout.”

Fisher continues, “Last week I came by myself and all of a sudden a man asked me to dance… I guess he saw me bouncing in my seat … and oh! he was such a good dancer, wow!”  A few minutes later I saw Fisher up dancing with some others.

Linda and Mark Sandoval of Larkspur were there for the first time.  Linda said, “We didn’t know about the music…we saw one of the musicians in the parking lot with his equipment and thought, oh, they must be having music, we should come back … and we did!”

Mark Sandoval added, “I think it’s great. It’s wonderful to see families and everyone enjoying themselves and having a grand time.”
