The Pancake Kids!

Kids enjoy cooking class at Williams-Sonoma at the Village at Corte Madera

Sweet Breakfast Treats was the theme for this children’s cooking class at Williams-Sonoma at the .  Nine kids between the ages of 5 and 15 years of age participated.  They learned how to make a large German Apple Pancake and Buttermilk pancakes.

They all intently listened to their teacher, Anne Doyle, and help create some yummy breakfast fare.  They each were given recipes and eagerly assisted with the pouring, mixing, and especially the tasting. They loved using the Pancake Pen.  This wonderful kitchen tool is a pancake batter dispenser and enables the user to create fun pancake shapes.  The kids made letters, mini pancakes, dogs, hearts, and filled pancake molds to create Star Wars figures.

Tucker, 9, from Belvedere was there with his sister Madison, 6.  Tucker told me he comes to these cooking classes because, “I love to cook…I really love to bake cakes.  Once I cut a cake in half and put icing in the middle…I’ve come to these cooking classes before.”  Then Madison eagerly told me, “He makes really good smoothies!”

Michaela, 15, was there with her cousins, Kendall, 13, and Hailey, 5.  She told me,  “I like coming to these classes because I love to cook.  I really enjoyed making the German Apple Pancake and the buttermilk pancakes.”  Then Hailey added, between bites, “This pancake is delicious!” I heard Kendall say Hailey had eaten about five pancakes already.

Sisters Hailie and Jaime came because they like to cook. Hailie told me, “I learned how to make a German Apple Pancake and the buttermilk pancakes.  It’s fun and they taste really good.”  When I asked her if she would make these at home she enthusiastically said, “Definitely!”

They all took turns creating fun shaped pancakes with the Pancake Pen, flipping them and of course, eating them.  They even took some of their creations home.  Tucker made a dog face and a stack of mini pancakes.  Kendall made a birthday cake with a candle, and many of the others made their initials.

All of these kids love to cook and enjoyed sharing a new cooking experience with the others in the class.  It is always so inspiring to see kids joining together to do what they love.

For an hour and a half these nine children became….The Pancake Kids!  And I am sure they will be making lots of FUN shaped pancakes for breakfast in their homes very soon.

Until next Wednesday, remember, it is all “for the love of kids…”

In joy, Marilyn
