Lazy Horse Performing at Piccolo Pavillion

What to do on Father’s Day?  How about relaxing in the park with your family, enjoying a picnic dinner, with the sounds of a local band playing The Doors, The Beatles, The Kinks, Neil Young, and the Rolling Stones?

You are in luck.  The Summer Concert Series, put on by the volunteers in the Corte Madera Community Foundation, begins on Father’s Day, June 17, 5:00-6:00pm.  The free concerts are held at Piccolo Pavilion in Old Corte Madera Square, the pretty little park at the bottom of the hill where Tamalpais Drive meets Corte Madera Avenue.

Performing at the Father’s Day concert is Lazy Horse, led by Brandon Hemley, a local dad who with his family lives up the hill from Piccolo Pavilion. Brandon is the former president of the Christmas Tree Hilldwellers Association; his day job is corporate counsel for Charles Schwab.

On their Facebook page, Lazy Horse describes how they met:

Brandon and Chris B. were neighbors in San Francisco around the turn of the century. Chris went north and Brandon soon followed. Brandon and Kevin got connected through their offspring and started horsing around with Chris B. in Brandon's garage. Brandon and Chris E. went to Cal in the 80's and reunited at an alumni golf tournament. Chris E. then joined and introduced us all to Norma and his spacious conference room turned studio. Chris B. struck up a conversation about music with Mike M. over Keith Richards' autobiography at a school fundraiser book browse and invited him to jam with the band. So that's how it happened.

The Summer Concert Series goes from June 17-August 26. For information about the other bands, go to www.CorteMaderaCommunityFoundation.org.
