Larkspur-Corte Madera Weekend Planner August 26-28

From "The Tempest," a yard sale fundraiser and a reading at the Book Passage to Soccerfest 2011 and great bluegrass at the Piccolo Pavilion, we've got you covered.

Saturday and Sunday:

The Marin Shakespeare Company presents "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare. The professional, award-winning company presents "The Tempest" under the summer stars in its outdoor venue, Dominican University of California's Forest Meadows Amphitheatre in San Rafael. The Tempest is a magical, mysterious exploration of revenge, forgiveness and the transitory nature of dreams. Marin Shakespeare Company welcomes wunderkind director Jon Tracy who brings his own brand of magic to this enchanting romance. Featuring Robert Parsons,* Michael Torres, Scott Coopwood, Lynne Soffer, and George Maguire.

If you go: Tickets are $20-$35 and can be bought by clicking here. Saturday’s opening show begins at 8 p.m. and you are invited to celebrate  with complimentary champagne, cake and festivities. Sunday’s show is a “family show” beginning at 4 p.m. and youth 18 and under attend the show for free.  What a great deal.  The play is performed at Forest Meadows Amphitheatre,1475 Grand Avenue, Dominican University of California in San Rafael, The show continues until September 25.

WindChime of Marin will be hosting a yard sale to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association. Items for sale include furniture, toys, electronics and more. Come on by, pick up a few items and help support Team WindChime as we participate in this year's Walk to End Alzheimer's.

If you go: Stop by between 10 a.m. - 2p.m. at Windchime of Marin, 1111Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in Kentfield.

 

Sunday:

Larry Jacobson talks about The Boy Behind the Gate. At 46, Captain Larry Jacobson fulfilled his childhood aspirations to become a world-class sailor and circumnavigate the globe. However, he had to overcome his fears and anxieties—not only for himself, but as a captain responsible for the lives of others.

If you go: The free event begins at 1 pm. At the , 51 Tamal Vista Blvd. in Corte Madera.

 

Sunday:

The Ross Valley Breakers FC, San Anselmo Recreation Department and West Marin Youth Soccer League will together host the first annual soccer season kick-off parade and festival, SoccerFest 2011. The day begins at 9 a.m.with a parade through downtown San Anselmo and then continues at Memorial Park with a 4v4 Jamboree soccer tournament, fun skills zone, jumpy houses, food and music .The community event will celebrate the 1,000+ players who represent the sponsoring organizations plus Drake, SoccerKids, San Domenico School, the North Bay Wave and other local soccer programs. Proceeds will help fund soccer scholarships and general enhancements for our local select and recreational soccer programs.

If you go: Adults and children of all ages are encouraged to attend this community-wide event. The fun is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning in downtown San Anselmo and moving over to Memorial Park, 1000 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in San Anselmo.

 

Sunday:

String Break" is a traditional bluegrass band based mostly in Marin County. They play music in the straight-ahead tradition of the pioneering bluegrass bands like Bill Monroe and Flat and Scruggs, while also tipping the hat to the California bluegrass pioneers like Vern Williams. The band features standard acoustic bluegrass instrumentation with lots of three part harmony singing. The present lineup includes Dave Hanks on mandolin, Mike Staninec on guitar, Bruce Thompson on banjo, Ted Garber on dobro and Patti Garber on bass.

If you go: It's the last concert this season, so don't miss it. The music plays between 5 p.m.-6 p.m. at , Tamalpais Dr & Redwood Avenue in Corte Madera.
