Having a bad day? The plight of the characters in Stay Up With Me, a new collection of stories from Marin author Tom Barbash, will likely make you feel like you don't have it so bad.

Barbash appears at the Book Passage in Corte Madera Tuesday night to read from the collection, showing off a series of stories that the New York Times suggests should be given to heartbroken friends with the inscriptions: “Everybody in this book is worse off than you.”

Barbash's past work includes the novel The Last Good Chance as well as On Top of the World: Cantor Fitzgerald, Howard Lutnick & 9/11: A Story of Loss & Renewal, the nonfiction look at the Howard Lutnick, chairman of the bond-trading firm that lost a staggering 658 employees in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
