Talent New And Old On The Rise

Newcomers hold their own with veterans Bruce Willis and Bill Murray with a beautiful and emotional Moonrise Kingdom.

OK, how would you define Bruce Willis' career?

He was funny and charming in Moonlighting. Then he went the action hero route with the Die Hard movies. And now, he's somewhere in between but so much more.

If you didn't catch it in the theaters, then write Moonrise Kingdom on the top of your list of movies to rent. Willis is a quirky, sensitive, almost geeky, policeman on an island in New England.

Willis more than holds his own with the likes of Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand. The veterans, however, make way for the two newcomers — Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman — who gave an incredible account of the troubles of two youths trying to become adults.

Set against an impending storm, the emotions on the screen are just as wild as teenagers in love Suzy and Sam run away to start a life together. The trouble is, everyone on the island is trying to stop them.

Willis' Captain Sharp understands better than most what Suzy and Sam are feeling. He's caught in his own dysfunctional romance with Suzy's mother, Mrs. Bishop, played by McDormand.
