Candidates Night, Breast Cancer Forum, Winnie the Witch

What's happening around town, Oct. 25-26.

TUESDAY

Meet the candidates night: Larkspur City Council candidates Ann Morrison, Brad Marsh and Mayor Larry Chu will face the voters Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Hall Middle School gym.

Chu and Marsh met each other in a debate hosted by the League of Women Voters and broadcast on Comcast Ch. 27. All three candidates met recently in another debate.

There are three candidates for two council seats in the Nov. 8 election, however the council will make an appointment after the election to fill the seat vacated by the Joan Lundstrom, who retired on Oct. 15.

Breast Cancer Forum: What's happening to women in our community? Marin County has gained national attention for its relatively high rate of breast cancer. Why?

Rochelle Ereman, an epidemiologist for the County of Marin Department of Health and Human Services, will discuss the rate of breast cancer in Marin during Tuesday's Breast Cancer Forum hosted by the Marin Cancer Institute. The forum will be held at Mill Valley's Acqua Hotel, 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The forum will also include discussions with Dr. Leah Kelley, breast surgeon; Dr. Bobbie Head, medical oncologist; Drs. Francine Halberg and Vida Campbell, radiation oncologists; Dr. Khashayar Mohebali, plastic surgery; Jeannine Vitali-Schultz, registered dietition; Sharon Meyer, DipION, CNC; and Regan Fedric, exercise physiologist (oncology specialty.)

MCAL Boys Water Polo Playoffs: Sixth-seeded Redwood takes on No. 3 Tam at Drake High School's pool in the opening round at 6:30 p.m. The winner advances to Wednesday's semifinal against second-seeded Marin Catholic at 6:30 p.m.

Larkspur Planning: The Larkspur Planning Commission will hear a proposal regarding the conversion of the West America Bank building on 1177 Magnolia Ave. to a veterinary office. The office space and parking would be reconfigured and possibly increased under the proposal. The Larkspur City Council has already approved the opening of a veterinary office in the space. Meeting time is 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

WEDNESDAY

Make Corte Madera Beautiful: The Corte Madera Beautification Committee holds its monthly meeting Wednsday, 10 a.m., at the Corte Madera Library.

Puppet Show: The Corte Madera Public Library is hosting the Halloween special Winnie the Witch Puppet Show for children ages 4 and older. The show starts at 7 p.m. Come in costume!

Ross Valley Sanitary District: The RVSD Board will consider a response to the Marin County civil grand jury report titled, "Ross Valley Sanitary District: Not Again!" at the next meeting, slated for 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Kentfield School District office at 750 College Ave. in Kentfield.

Larkspur-Corte Madera School District: The Board of Trustees is scheduled to consider vendor contracts and discuss recent enrollment reports at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will be in the Hall Middle School library at 200 Doherty Drive in Larkspur.

MCAL Girls Water Polo Playoffs: The top-seeded Marin Catholic girls water polo team takes on SR/TL at the Drake High School pool in the Marin County Athletic League semifinals at 5:15 p.m. The winner advances to Friday's championships.

Job Fair: The Job Placement Center at College of Marin is hosting the annual Fall Job Fair in the Student Services Building on the Kentfield Campus. The event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Employers and resource agencies from the Bay Area will be present to provide employment opportunities and resources to College of Marin students, alumni, and community members. This event is open to the public and free of charge. A detailed list of the employers who will be in attendance is posted online at www.marin.edu/StudentServices/JobPlacement.
