Around Town Dec. 5-6: Learn how to quilt, make decorations, or cook holiday meals.

• The Corte Madera Library is hosting a quilting class Tuesday, giving children the chance to give a precious gift to less fortunate children. Victoria Gonzalez will help school-age children create their own square which will be part of a larger quilt, a gift for young patients at Oakland Children's Hospital. • Join James Sokol at the Lark Theater for an entertaiing introduction to the world of opera, with a broadcast of Faust's A Deal With The Devil on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The cost is $27. Call 415-924-5111 for details.

• Planning a gluten-free holiday? New York Times best-selling author and Crock Pot Diva Stephanie O'Dea will share tips and recipes for slow cooking gluten free Tuesday. Bring a gluten-free savory or sweet dish to share at 6:30 p.m. in the Corte Madera Town Center Community Room, located near the AT&T Store.

• Looking for a traditional Christmas? Bring the family on Tuesday, 4:30-5:30 p.m. to a craft workshop at Mimi the Sardine in Corte Madera. Pia Andersson will teach you how to make smällkarameller, a Swedish Holiday decoration made from tissue paper, cardboard, and with a candy surprise inside. Good for all ages. • Corte Madera photographer Joey Della Santina is the guest of honor Tuesday evening as the December Artist of the Month at the Mill Valley Public Library. The event, 6-8 p.m., is free and open to everyone. The collection traces some of Della Santina's roots, with photos of small Italian towns and some of the most recognizable structures in the Bay Area.
