Sweet Deals At New Bakery

Nothing Bundt Cakes cuts the ribbon on its newest store in Corte Madera.

It might be good for the coffers of the Town of Corte Madera, but Nothing Bundt Cakes' tasty treats might also be a distraction for dieters.

"It's nice to have a new small business in town, especially one that caters to the sweet tooth ... or maybe the overactive sweet tooth," said Corte Madera Mayor Alexandra Cock after officially cutting the ribbon on the new bakery in The Marketplace shopping center.

Representatives from the Corte Madera and San Rafael chambers of commerce were also part of the celebration.

The grand opening ceremonies continue through the weekend. Twenty percent of Friday's proceeds will go to SPARK to help local schools. The family is invited to sample cakes on Saturday and celebrate with balloons and face painters. And, the first 50 customers to make a purchase will receive free bundtlets for a year.

"This is an absolutely beautiful store," Cock said. "I tasted the cake and it's delicious."

Cock was re-elected to the Town Council in the Nov. 8 elections. Her campaign emphasized in part a need to bring new small businesses into the community. Mini of Marin, Boca Pizzeria and Cafe Verde all expected to open early in 2012.

"We have a number of vacant spaces around town. The town has helped property owners by promoting these vacant spaces," Cock said. "The town can work more closely with propery owners to fill vacant spaces."
