Get Your Flu Shots This Weekend

Around Town Feb. 17-19: Celebrate Presidents Day Weekend by getting out of the house for a walk, a class, or a tasty treat.

• It’s not too late to get your flu vaccination! Northgate in San Rafael and The Village at Corte Madera are partnering with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help you stay healthy. Northgate and The Village, which frequently host community programs, invite area residents who have not gotten their flu vaccinations to come to either center on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Northgate’s vaccinations will occur in the Macy’s wing and The Village’s vaccinations will be in Center Court.

• Love to garden, but it's so much work and nothing ever seems to grow ... except weeds? Well, the Marin Municipal Water District is offering some free tips Friday, Feb. 17, that can save your money and your plants. Learn how using cardboard sheets and organic mulch can virtually eliminate weeds, reduce water use, enrich soil, attract worms, replace unwanted lawns and make your plants extremely happy. • Rustic Bakery is finally opening at Marin Country Mart after weeks of anticipation. The bread and snacks will be coming out of the kitchen beginning Friday, Feb. 17, across from 24 Hour Fitness.

• The farmers market at Marin Country Mart returns Saturday with a selection of fresh foods, flowers and fun. The market is held every Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Foodies might want to come back Sunday for the weekly Off The Grid food truck gathering, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

• The 2007 murder of Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey sent shockwaves beyond the East Bay. Author Thomas Peele visits Book Passage in Corte Madera on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. to talk about his impression of the case Killing the Messenger.
