Marin Catholic Girls Virtually Unstoppable

Around Town Feb. 9-10: High school hoops teams close out the regular season tonight and prepare for the playoffs.

 

• Marin Catholic's girls basketball team is one the verge of an undefeated season in the Marin County Athletic League. Only Justin-Siena stands before the Wildcats (13-0 MCAL, 17-7 overall) as they meet in the regular-season finale tonight, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. in Kentfield. Marin Catholic's boys team (10-3 MCAL, 20-5 overall) can regain its momentum heading into the playoffs with a victory over visiting Justin-Siena tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats saw their four-game streak end Tuesday with a 57-49 loss to San Marin.

• Redwood High School wraps up the basketball regular season at home against San Rafael tonight, Feb. 9. The Giants' girls squad (8-5 MCAL, 15-9 overall), which tips off at 6 p.m., is on a roll after winning its last two games. The boys (7-6 MCAL, 15-10 overall) also have a chance to close out the schedule with a three-game win streak when they tip off at 7:30 p.m.

• Larkspur's Heritage Preservation Board meets tonight, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. at City Hall with its focus on preparing for 2012. The board will prepare its annual "to-do" list and look at possible additions to its archives.

• The Lark Theater and the National Theatre London offer an inside look at the early days of motion pictures with Travelling Light, a new play by Nicholas Wright. In a remote village in Eastern Europe, around 1900, a young lad becomes hypnotized by the moving images he sees. Years later, recognized as a famed film director, he looks back on his early life and confronts the cost of fulfilling his dreams.

• Too busy to take care of yourself? Take a timeout to hang out with Beth Aldrich at Book Passage in Corte Madera on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. as she presents Real Moms Love to Eat: How to Conduct a Love Affair with Food, Lose Weight, and Feel Fabulous. Aldrich will share her tips to make healthy eating simple and realistic — and even fun — for busy moms.
