Girl Scout Cookie Season is Underway

Girl Scout cookies are now available throughout Novato. So which one is your favorite? Thin Mints? Samoas?

While I was out doing some grocery shopping today, I was fortunate to come across Girl Scout Troop 30303 outside Safeway at the Hamilton Marketplace.  The Girl Scouts already had a guaranteed sale with me before I even approached their table, but I still had them give me their best sales pitch.  I have to say, they completely nailed it.

First of all, they had a very nice display setup and asked me if I would like to buy some cookies. I asked how much the boxes were and was quickly quoted $4 a box or 5 boxes for $20 — nice up-sell tactic.  They also had a sample plate setup and offered a free “Thank U Berry Much” cookie, which I couldn’t resist.  The girls then attempted to close the deal by mentioning they make wonderful Valentine’s Day gifts and even had some boxes pre-wrapped with some purple and pink ribbons and a red heart.

In the end, I walked away with a box of Thin Mints, Dulce de Leche, and Thank U Berry Much cookies which certainly won’t be my only three boxes of the season.  My favorites are still the “Thanks-A-Lot” cookies, but they also tend to be the most difficult to find.  In fact, I will buy three boxes if anyone can help me locate them.

If you are out and about, be sure to stop by one of the many locations in Novato and support the Girl Scouts.  If you need help locating them, you can visit the Girl Scouts website and search for a location or even download their Cookie Locator app for iPhone or Android.  And, at only $4 a box, why not get an extra one or two this year.

So what’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie?

Our council which covers Marin and Sonoma counties does not carry Thanks-A-Lot. We in Northern California have our own baker that assures fresh cookies every year is seperate from the baker that Girl scouts USA uses. They are the ones who produce that flavor cookie. You might want to check councils out of the area.

But make sure you support local girl scouts first, and I know you do!

Thanks for clarifying.

Trefoils... and a big glass of milk.

Eric, my daughter was a Girl Scout. We sold cookies for years. Thin Mints are the best. Now, please, a person of your elected office can surely write about harder issues than cookies, can't you? If you plan to stay in office try going out on a limb - take a chance, write about how you're going to vote against Affordable Housing. Write about how you're going to defend Novato from outside forces seeking to impose their will on our beautiful city. What about crime? What about the millions we’re spending on a City Hall building that isn’t needed and is unaffordable? Why DID I vote for you...? I’ll be sure to buy lots of GSCs this year, but it won’t be because of your, to this time, unproven leadership skills. Stop trying to ride the Girl Scouts’ coattails, tapping into their hard-earned political capital. Now, tell Novato who you are and what you stand for... beside a box of cookies.
