Ms. Fried "has been creating unique visual narratives that push the boundaries and traditional limits of illustrated books for years. In 2012, she authored Everyday Heroes: 50 Americans Changing the World One Nonprofit at a Time (winner of the IPPY Gold for Book Most Likely to Save the Planet, the Nautilus Gold Grand Prize, and finalist for ForeWord's Book of the Year). In 2008, she wrote American Farmer, and as Senior Editor and Associate Publisher of Welcome Books she has produced numerous award-winning and bestselling titles. She lives and works in Petaluma, CA and New York City."

"We know how hard educators work to teach our children. We also know they spend a lot of their own money to purchase books and materials for their classrooms,” said Sarah DiFrancesco, Director of Business Development, Barnes & Noble, Inc. "That's why we're always searching for special offers on top of the 25% discount we provide during Educator Appreciation Days. Thanks to a great partnership with Rosetta Stone, we’re thrilled to be able to offer educators a 25% discount on Rosetta Stone Level 1 Language Sets for the first time. These sets are ideal for educators who want to enhance their own foreign language skills, or for use in classrooms and language labs."

Educators who visit stores during Educator Appreciation Days also will receive information about Barnes & Noble’s 2014 My Favorite Teacher Contest, which provides middle and high school students the opportunity to tell their communities how much they appreciate their teachers by writing an essay, poem or letter about them.  Local winning teachers are recognized at an in-store event in the spring and become eligible to win prizes at the regional level. One regional winner will be named the Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year and receive a cash prize of $5,000, with their school also receiving $5,000.
