Kids Love to Cook! Hands-on Cooking Demonstration, Saturday December 21st

DirectionFive is back at the Marin Country Mart Farmers' Market on Saturday, December 21st from 10:30-11:30 am. Kids and parents will enjoy a cooking demonstration and tasting with hands-on participation (appropriate for children of all ages). The recipe being demonstrated on the 21st is a seasonal winter salad with homemade salad dressing, which all participants will get to watch and help prepare and taste.

Haley, the market’s resident DirectionFive teacher knows that kids will eat almost anything, including raw vegetables, if they are involved in chopping, mashing, measuring, mixing, and pouring. DirectionFive (D5), a California-based non-profit organization, works with schools to offer a new model for health education by giving kids the tools they need to make healthy choices. Addressing the health problems that are afflicting today’s culture is a daunting task, but D5’s programs address this problem head-on by teaching kids practical skills and inspiring them to lead happy, healthy, and productive lives- starting in the kitchen! D5 was founded on the principle that if kids are part of the process they will be part of the solution.

The demonstrations and tastings will take place under the big farmers’ market tent. There will be two 30 minute teaching sessions, the first from 10:30-11:00 am and the second session will be just after the first, from 11:00-11:30am.
