William Carney - Mountain

Scientific
revelation and planetary crisis are now expanding the scope of questions that
have always stirred when people gaze into the night sky: How big and how old is
all of this? How did we come to be and where are we going? In Mountain: An Evolutionary
Epic
($12.95), journey with June and her friends for a week in the
backcountry, as they take in the evolving saga of the cosmos and work out their
own unfolding lives within that epic context. Share their everyday—and
life-shifting—dramas, from love and grief to work and creativity, from
spiritual practice to climate crisis, from war to classroom.

William Carney’s poetry has been awarded two American Academy of Poets prizes and a
Hutchinson Fellowship at Williams College. His previous books include Cities, a
nuclear peace epic. As a landscape architect, he oversaw the design and
construction of Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco. He started telling the
story of the universe as a camp naturalist in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a field
biologist at Philmont National Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
