NEW IN FILM REVIEWS:
Premium Rush
Who would think a film about a bike messenger would be the least bit entertaining? Well Premium Rush is quite the entertaining and fast-paced thriller, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a New York city bike messenger with an attitude but he’s a likable character. As someone who visited New York city, it was nice to recognize the various streets that Gordon Levitt’s character rides through all in a span of one day. This is a fun film, nothing mind-blowing, but has enough thrills and a good amount of humor to keep one’s interest, plus a creepily funny performance by Michael Shannon. So if you’re looking to be entertained, check it out.
Sleepwalk with Me
This film written, directed, and starring stand-up comedian Mike Birbiglia, was quite the surprise after catching an afternoon showing at the Rafael Theater. Now on DVD, I watch the film again, and it’s better the second time. Mike basically plays himself as a man struggling with both his stand-up career and his relationship with his girlfriend of 8 years, also he walks and talks in his sleep. Very reminiscent of Woody Allen’s Annie Hall; a comedian and his relationship problems and also the fact that he talks to the audience various times through out the film. These are the kind of films I love to stumble upon, realistic yet funny. I knew about Mike Birbiglia’s stand-up a few years ago, so I always found him funny, and bringing his humor to film is quite the treat. So if you’re a fan of good stand-up comedy, and funny, relatable characters, then I recommend you wake up and check out Sleepwalk with Me.
