Readers' Choice: Sweet Win For SusieCakes

You voted the bakery as The Best Place To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day, so get your green on and party this weekend.

SusieCakes didn't win last week's poll to find the "Best Place for a Children's Birthday Party," but they found the sweet spot this week.

The promise of Bailey's-flavored frosting on delicious cupcakes was enough to convince you to vote SusieCakes "The Best Place To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day."

SusieCakes has a lot of special treats to offer during this holiday weekend, just in case you're too tired to make dessert.

Marin Brewing Company came in a close second and there's little doubt the restaurant will be busy Saturday, especially with March Madness on just about every television. BrewCo will feature its Irish Red brew … and don't forget the bagpipers.

The Lark Theater is celebrating a little early with tonight's documentary Jig and live music from the Black Brothers, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

It looks like the forecast of rain might have washed out the Marin Country Mart farmers market in the voting, but the festival of fresh food goes on.

History.com offers some background on St. Patrick's Day:

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, the saint's religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast — on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.
