How Emotionally Safe is Your Relationship?

Intimate relationship ideally are places of refuge, a port in the storm.  It's important to be as securely attached (vs insecurely or anxiously attached) as possible to your partner for the most rewarding relationship possible.

The following statements are some of the primary markers of emotional safety.  Read through them and make mental note of whether you agree or disagree.

  • I feel heard by my partner.
  • I feel understood by my partner.
  • I feel validated by my partner.
  • I feel empathy from my partner.
  • I feel respected by my partner.
  • I feel love from my partner.
Even if you weren't modeled safety in relationships in your family of origin, the great news is that emotional safety can be taught.  Couples can learn the tools and skills to provide the security they each need.
