Friday Night At The Movies

'Rise of the Guardians' is great for adults, not small children

Parents, unless you WANT to scare your young children, DO NOT take them to Rise of the Guardians.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great movie, but definitely not for the little tykes. The holiday-themed movie is rated PG for "some mildly scary action and thematic elements." It's going to get scary whenever you bring in the Bogeyman.

The Guardians, a 6-foot tall Australian Easter Bunny, a tattooed Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman, must stop the Bogeyman and his cavalry of Nightmares from destroying all hopes, dreams and faith of children around the world. To save the world and themselves, the Guardians will need the help of Jack Frost and a group of children.

Only two holidays are represented in this movie, but Dreamworks might be saving St. Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Thanksgiving and Halloween for a sequel.

There's a lot of fun in this story, but when the Bogeyman launches an all-out war against the Guardians — and it looks like the good guys might lose everything — it was just too much for the toddler in the row in front of me.

This is a great way for adults to kick off the holiday season and get back some of that childlike sense of fun that might be missing from our lives, but leave the kids at home. Then you can hit the toy stores for all the holiday shopping.

Prop 37 would have exempted "organic" food from the labeling requirement. What sense doesRead More that make? (Answer: none.)
