Cars Being Targeted, Windows Smashed

Twin Cities Police Log Jan. 25-31: There have been several reports of cars being broken into and vandalized, so keep an eye on your possessions.

• A Cotati resident reported that while his vehicle was parked in the lot at the Gold’s Gym, located at 10 Fifer Ave., someone smashed in the windows of his vehicle. It was determined that a “camelback” and college textbooks, for a loss of approximately $500, were taken. An Auto Burglary report was taken for documentation.

A San Rafael resident also reported that someone smashed in the windows of her vehicle while it was parked in the lot at Gold’s Gym. It was determined that her purse, containing a checkbook, credit cards, driver’s license, miscellaneous make-up and an iPhone were taken. Total loss was estimated at $950. An Auto Burglary report was taken to document the theft. There is possible follow-up investigation pending for both cases.

• An employee of the Big 5 Sporting Goods, located at 110 Nellen Ave., reported that there was a vehicle in the lot with a smashed window. The owner, a Mill Valley resident, was located. It was determined nothing was taken, that it was vandalism only.

• A resident of the 200 block of Via Casitas reported that the driver side window of her vehicle was smashed.

• A resident of the 200 block of Via Casitas reported that someone had broken the driver's side window of her vehicle. It was determined there was no loss from the vehicle.

• Twin Cities Police received notification from the San Pablo Police Department to advise they had located the vehicle reported stolen on Jan. 15, 2012, from the area of the Cheesecake Factory in the Village Shopping Center. The vehicle is not damaged, stripped or burned and there is no one in custody. The registered owner was notified of the recovery by S.P.P.D. and the vehicle was cleared from the Stolen Vehicle System.

• A resident of the 20 block of Lakeside Drive reported his FastTrak transponder was stolen from his unlocked vehicle.

• A resident in the 10 block of Diane Lane reported she is being stalked by her ex-husband. A neighbor had just advised her that he was on William Avenue, behind her house. She advised she is extremely frightened of him and requested the area be checked for him and his vehicle. Units located the subject to the rear of the residence and after a short foot pursuit, a Larkspur man was arrested for prowling and booked into the Marin County Jail.

• A resident of the 40 block of Mohawk Avenue reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle. Taken were prescription sunglasses, compact discs and change.

• A resident of the 2100 block of Redwood Highway came to TCPA to report that she had been involved in dispute with her ex-boyfriend. A report was taken for Domestic Battery. Officers responded to the location of the incident where the involved subject was located. A Larkspur man was arrested for Domestic Battery and booked into the Marin County Jail.

• A resident of the 100 block of Lakeside Drive reported she is receiving threats via text, e-mail and phone calls from the estranged wife of a high school friend. The subject making the threats lives in Florida. The subject also recently tracked down work phone numbers for her and her husband and has begun calling them there. A report was taken for Criminal Threats to be forwarded to the Marin County District Attorney. She was also provided information on obtaining a restraining order.

• A Loss Prevention Agent for Macy’s, located in the Village Shopping Center, reported a subject in custody for the theft of $366 in merchandise. A San Rafael woman was arrested for shoplifting and booked into the Marin County Jail.

• A Greenbrae resident reported that while he was at the 24 Hour Fitness, located in the Marin Country Mart shopping center, his driver’s license, blue jeans and wallet were taken from a locker. A report was taken to document the theft.

• A San Rafael resident reported that his Gucci belt and Gucci wallet, containing a driver’s license, were taken from a locker at the 24 Hour Fitness located in the Marin Country Mart shopping center. The total loss was estimated at $700. A Commercial Burglary report was taken for documentation.

• A Fairfax resident reported the theft of his iPhone 4S, valued at approximately $700, from an unlocked locker at the 24 Hour Fitness located in the Marin Country Mart shopping center.

• A resident in the 400 block of Madrone Avenue reported two male subjects in a vehicle smoking marijuana in front of his home. A San Anselmo male and a San Francisco woman contacted and warned for possession of Marijuana in a vehicle.

• A Larkspur resident reported her son's burnt red, GT Aggressor 15 speed bicycle, valued at approximately $350, was stolen from where it was locked to a pole in the 50 block of Tamalpais Drive, Corte Madera. A report was taken and the bicycle was entered into the Automated Property System.

• A driver for the Marin Taxi Company reported he was in a lot at the Corte Madera Town Center with a subject inside the taxi refusing to pay.
Officers responded and contacted the driver and the passenger. A San Francisco man was arrested and booked at the Marin County Jail for public intoxication.

• The Security Officer for the Corte Madera Town Center reported that that a subject known to have warrants was inside Safeway. Officers responded and located the subject inside his vehicle in the parking lot. A Petaluma man was arrested and booked at the Marin County Jail for two outstanding warrants.

• A Ross resident reported his blue and white Specialized Stump Jumper 20 speed mountain bicycle, valued at $4,500, was taken from in front of a residence in the 90 block of Cornell Avenue.

• A resident of the 500 block of Chapman Drive reported that someone had accessed her Wells Fargo on-line account. She was told by the bank that she is the victim of a "super-fraud", as when she logs in to her account; she is routed to hackers appearing to be Wells Fargo Bank. A Fraud report was taken and there is possible follow-up pending.

• Officers responded to the Silver Peso Bar, located at 450 Magnolia Ave., for a report via 9-1-1 of a physical altercation. The Larkspur Fire Department also responded for a medical check out. Two San Rafael men were contacted. An incident report was taken for documentation.

• Pursuant to being contacted while sleeping in a vehicle, a Larkspur man was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Pursuant to a search of the vehicle, the subject was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance and narcotics paraphernalia. He was booked into the Marin County Jail on the warrant and the narcotics charges.

• A Mill Valley resident, who is a student at Redwood High School, reported the theft of his black iPhone 4 from his backpack while he was in P.E.

• A Kentfield resident reported his bicycle was stolen from the bike rack in front of the Marin Rowing Club at 50 Drakes Landing Road. The bicycle is a gray men's Bonanza 3 speed with Judy forks.

• A Loss Prevention Agent for Nordstrom, located in the Village Shopping Center, filed a fraud report. The suspect, a Richmond woman, used a fraudulent identification and purchased $972 worth of merchandise. She was subsequently arrested by the San Francisco Police Department for the same crime.

• A Mill Valley resident reported the theft of camera equipment from the trunk of her vehicle while it was parked in a lot at the Village Shopping Center. She discovered the theft when she arrived at Home Depot in San Rafael. The approximate loss is $10,000. An Auto Burglary report was taken to document the theft.

• A Corte Madera resident reported her purse, containing her driver’s license, credit cards and checks, was stolen from her cart in Safeway on Dec. 29, 2011, but she didn't report it at that time. However, she has since learned that someone has deposited forged checks into her bank account in San Francisco and is withdrawing money at unknown locations. An Identity Theft report was taken and will be forwarded to the San Francisco Police Department for further action on the check fraud.

• Pursuant to his being contacted in the Corte Madera Town Center, a San Francisco man was arrested for being Intoxicated in Public. He was booked into the Marin County Jail.

During this one week time period, Twin Cities Police had 283 calls for service. This included two calls related to accidents with minor injuries, one hit and run accident and eight property damage only accidents. There were three auto burglaries and one commercial burglary. There were no calls related to Driving while Intoxicated.
