Cop Calls: One Burglary Leads To Another

Twin Cities Police busy with a rash of bicycle thefts and auto burglaries during a two-week period in July.

The following incidents occurred between July 18-31 as reported by the Twin Cities Police. Arrests do not necessarily equal convictions.

• A resident of the 40 block of Corte Encanto reported she discovered her storage locker had been broken into and her silver, red and black Specialized mountain bike, valued at $2,700, had been stolen. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

While on the scene, the responding Twin Cities Police Officer was advised an additional storage locker had been broken into and two bicycles were stolen. An additional Residential Burglary report was taken.

While responding to these two burglaries of storage lockers, the Officer was flagged down in the same area regarding a vehicle that had been rifled through. The owner found the car door ajar and the ashtray on top of the car but nothing was missing. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• While on patrol in the area of Redwood High School, an Officer advised he was attempting to contact several juveniles by the gym. One juvenile male subject stood by while three other juvenile females ran off. One of the females was located and detained. The other two were contacted at a residence in the 40 block of Heather Way. All four juveniles were determined to have been consuming alcohol. A Greenbrae juvenile female, a Corte Madera Juvenile female and a Larkspur juvenile female were all arrested for resisting arrest and released to responsible adults on juvenile citations. The Kentfield juvenile male was released to his grandmother at the scene with no charges.

• A resident in the 700 block of Meadowsweet Drive reported via 9-1-1 that her father was "beating" her mother.  While on the phone, she advised her father had left the scene on foot.  Officers responded and contacted the daughter and mother.  Medical response was requested for the mother, who was transported to the Marin General Hospital Emergency Room.  Officers checked the area for the involved male subject and were unable to locate him.  A Domestic Battery report was taken and there is further action pending.

• A responsible subject for the WinCup property, located at 195 Tamal Vista Blvd., reported on July 11, 2012, someone broke into the building and took copper metals. As the Officer arrived on scene to take the report, suspicious activity was noted with two subjects and a vehicle. A foot pursuit began and continued into the marsh, east of Redwood Highway. Assistance in attempting to locate the subjects was provided by multiple officers and allied agencies; however the subjects were not located. The two subjects were determined to be in a stolen vehicle, reported to TCPA on June 6, 2012, taken from the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal.

• An Officer from the Merced Police Department reported they had contacted an Oakland man, who is a parolee at large, during a traffic stop along with an Oakland female. They were found to be in possession of two checkbooks belonging to a subject with a Corte Madera address. They also located credit cards and theme park passes in the name of another Corte Madera resident.  They requested we contact the subjects to determine if the items were lost or stolen.  Officers responded and contacted both Corte Madera men and determined they are victims in Commercial Burglary cases of a Corte Madera storage facility. There is further investigation in process.

• Twin Cities Police received a call from a Bel Aire Cab driver, who was in the 2000 block of Redwood Highway, reporting he had just dropped off three subjects, but all refused to pay for the cab fare and left running from the area.  Officers located two of the subjects, a Greenbrae man and a San Pablo woman, who were warned for failing to pay the fare.  The third subject wasn't found or identified.  The two subjects paid the fare and were sent on their way.

• A business in the 700 building of Larkspur Landing Circle reported an office was broken into.  A door was damaged and a computer valued at approximately $3,000 is missing. A Commercial Burglary report was taken.

• The Corte Madera Mini Storage, located at 5776 Paradise Drive, reported they discovered six storage units had been broken into. The business advised that they are in the process of contacting the owners. Six reports were taken for Commercial burglary. There is continued investigation pending.

• A resident of the 10 block of Pixley Avenue reported her vehicle had been keyed sometime during the day. She believes a neighbor is involved over an ongoing dispute. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

• A San Rafael resident reported that while her vehicle was parked in the lot at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal, it was entered via unknown means. Taken was a Kenwood CD player, valued at approximately $200. It was determined the vehicle had been left unlocked. Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A Loss Prevention Agent for Nordstrom, located in The Village Shopping Center, reported on July 12, 2012, a subject used a counterfeit credit card for four purchases, totaling $2,189.  There is information regarding the possible involved subject and vehicle. A Fraud report was taken and there is follow-up pending.

• A resident of the 50 block of Corte Lenosa reported her locked vehicle was broken into sometime during the night. She advised that she heard the alarm go off and then stop around 1 a.m. She located scratches near the driver's side door handle. Taken were plumbing tools for a loss of approximately $7,500. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• An employee of the CVS Pharmacy, located in the Bon Air Shopping Center, reported he just grabbed a bottle of alcohol from some juveniles, who then sped off in a vehicle. They were last seen exiting from the west driveway of the center. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the involved subjects. It was determined the alcohol was seized prior to the juveniles exiting the store. Documentation was provided for the attempted shoplift.

• A Martinez resident reported he received a call from a male subject stating that if he did not wire money to him in Puerto Rico he would kill the man's brother. He stated he wired $3,000 from the bank inside Safeway, located at the Corte Madera Town Center, to the subject in Puerto Rico. A Fraud report was taken for documentation.

• Twin Cities Police Officers responded to the area of Magnolia Avenue and West Baltimore Avenue on a report that a vehicle had just run a stop sign and was involved in a collision with a bus. Officers contacted a Utah man who was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol and booked into the Marin County Jail.

• A resident of the 30 block of Mohawk Avenue reported she is having a yard sale and a subject went into her house and stole a pair of earrings, worth approximately $200, from the bathroom.  Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A resident of the 10 block of Laderman Lane reported her purse, with identification and a debit card, was taken from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the area of her residence. Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A Sausalito resident reported his a Jamison Quest, men’s 18-speed, gold-colored road bike, with 26-inch Easton rims and Cane Creek brakes, was taken from the back of his vehicle while it was parked in a lot at the Corte Madera Town Center. The bicycle is valued at approximately $1,000. A Grand Theft report was taken for documentation.

• A resident of the 200 block of Riviera Circle reported he placed his bicycle in the rear of his vehicle, and left it there with the hatchback open for approximately 30 minutes while he went to retrieve another bicycle from his residence. When he went to put the other bicycle in the vehicle, he discovered the first bicycle, a Specialized, Stump Jumper Elite men’s 27-speed grey and black mountain bike, valued at approximately $2,200, was missing. A Grand Theft report was taken for documentation.

• A resident of the 500 block of South Eliseo Drive reported she could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the park next to her building.  She observed a group of juveniles at a picnic table in the park.  Officers contacted the group and one adult, a Greenbrae man, was found in possession of marijuana.  Officers issued a citation to the adult for Possession of Marijuana, and released a juvenile to his mother.

• A San Francisco resident reported that while he was eating at a restaurant in downtown Larkspur, someone took his bicycle off his vehicle which was parked on King Street. The bicycle is described as a Specialized Stump jumper with a 23-inch frame, silver and blue, and has front suspension but no rear suspension, valued at approximately $1,000. A Grand Theft report was taken.

• A caller in the Village Shopping Center, in the area of the Nordstrom Store, reported witnessing a man take two bicycles off the back of a vehicle parked in the lot. The subject threw the bicycles into a waiting vehicle and drove off. The caller observed the subject use the bolt cutters to cut the cable and remove the two mountain bikes from the back of the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and a theft was determined to have occurred.  One bicycle is black, valued at $5,000; and the other is silver, valued at $4,000. A Grand Theft report was taken and there is further investigation in process.

• A resident of the 20 block of Buena Vista Avenue reported sometime last week, her red men's 24-speed Marin bicycle, valued at approximately $450, was stolen from the garage. She reported the bicycle was taken from an unlocked garage. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 10 block of Post Street reported two bicycles were taken from her porch.  She was unable to provide much information about the bicycles. Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A resident of the 60 block of Sonora Way reported her vehicle and the front of her house were egged within the last three to five minutes.  Officers checked the area but were not able to locate the responsible subjects.  Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

• Pursuant to being contacted by an Officer in Menke Park, a Larkspur man was arrested for an outstanding warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.  He was booked at the Marin County Jail. A second subject, a Mill Valley man, was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon and was also booked at the Marin County Jail. Also contacted were a San Rafael man, a San Rafael woman, a Corte Madera woman and a Fairfax woman. They were warned for being in the park after hours and sent on their way.

• A resident of the 400 building of Old Quarry Road North reported his girlfriend's locked vehicle had been entered. No signs of forced entry were located. Items taken include fitness gear and her work identification badge. The victim was contacted by telephone and it was determined approximately $1,194 in property was stolen. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 10 block of Fairview Avenue reported she wired $500 to a fraudulent account in Malaysia last night via Western Union regarding a Craig's List ad. Documentation was provided for the Fraud

• A resident of the 30 block of Edison Avenue reported his Outlaw Go-Kart was taken from the area of the 60 block of Corte Madera Avenue. The total loss is $2,500. A Vehicle Theft report was taken.

• A resident of the 50 block of Corte Lenosa reported several subjects are behind the apartments, smoking marijuana. Officers located the subjects, three San Rafael men and a San Rafael woman. One of the men was arrested for an outstanding warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.  He was booked at the Marin County Jail. A small amount of marijuana was confiscated for destruction.

• A resident of the 400 block of Via Hidalgo reported she found a vehicle parked halfway in her space and half in a neighbor's space. The vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen from the 300 block of Via Hidalgo on July 22, 2012. The vehicle was cleared from the Stolen Vehicle System and returned over to its owner.

• A resident of the 2000 block of Redwood Highway reported a window smash to a vehicle. After contacting the owners, who are Rohnert Park residents, it was determined the vehicle had been entered. An Auto Burglary report was taken for the theft of a wallet from the vehicle.

• An employee of a business in the 1000 building of Larkspur Landing Circle reported her vehicle was entered via a window smash. Taken were her briefcase, a wallet and medication. An Auto Burglary report was taken to document the theft.

• While checking the area of the 40 block of Tamal Vista Boulevard on a report of a suspicious vehicle, a TCPA Officer located an automobile which had been entered via a window smash. The owner of the vehicle was located and an Auto Burglary report was taken. Taken was a backpack, containing miscellaneous items, for a loss of $674.

• A resident of the 600 building of Old Quarry Road North reported she thought someone may have attempted to enter her apartment. She stated she found the frame for one of her screens was cracked and loose, but didn't think anyone had made entry. A report was taken for attempted Residential Burglary.

• A resident of the 10 block of Wildflower Court reported she and her husband just woke up to find their bicycles missing from their open garage. Taken were a gray & white Masi road bike and a red & black men's Santa Cruz mountain bike, for a total value of $8,000. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 10 block of Larkspur Plaza Drive reported someone took his remote control airplanes, valued at approximately $900, from the back of his truck. Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A business in The Village Shopping Center reported the theft of Gucci gold sunglasses which had just occurred. The involved subject was last seen fleeing south in the mall. The subject was not located. The loss is $325. Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A resident of the 300 block of Via Hidalgo reported the lock was cut off of her storage room and entered. The contents of the locker were recovered somewhere on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of Corona Del Mar reported she was notified by her bank that her debit card was used at the Apple Store, located in The Village Shopping Center, for a $652 loss. A Fraud report was taken and there is follow up pending.

• A San Rafael resident reported she just returned to the parking lot of the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal and her vehicle is missing. The area was checked for the vehicle with negative results and an Auto Theft report was taken. The vehicle was entered into the Stolen Vehicle System.

• A resident of the 400 block of Redwood Avenue reported an unknown subject tried to open a credit card account in his wife's name. Documentation was provided for the attempted Fraud.

• A Mill Valley resident reported that while he was at a business in the Marin Country Mart Shopping Center, on June 18, his wedding band was stolen. The loss is approximately $1,100. A Grand Theft report was taken.

• Pursuant to a bicycle stop in the area of Tamal Vista Boulevard and Council Crest Drive, a homeless man was arrested on an outstanding warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Marin County Jail.

• A Corte Madera resident reported while he was at a business in the Marin Country Mart Shopping Center, his wallet was stolen from an unlocked locker. The wallet contained his driver’s license, $5 and a debit card. A Petty Theft case was taken for documentation.

• A Loss Prevention Agent for Nordstrom, located in the Village Shopping Center, reported a credit card fraud case that occurred on July 23. A Fraud report was taken and there is further investigation pending.

• A Novato resident reported that while her vehicle was parked in a lot at the Bon Air Shopping Center, someone broke her car window and took her purse. She advised her purse contained credit cards, her identification, and approximately $700 in cash. An Auto Burglary report was taken for documentation.

• A resident in the 10 block of Via Hermosa reported someone had broken into her home and took her television and checkbooks. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A business in the 100 block of Nellen Avenue reported they have detained an employee who admitted to embezzling $883. A Tiburon female was arrested for Embezzlement. She was transported to the station where she was released on a citation after processing. An Embezzlement report was taken.

• A resident in the 20 block of Via Navarro reported he was a victim of identity theft.  Someone used his information to file a fraudulent tax return.  A Fraud report was taken for documentation.

• TCPA Officers responded to the Silver Peso Bar, located at 450 Magnolia Ave., on a report that a male subject was hit and he had a laceration to his head. Officers determined a Sausalito man had hit a Corte Madera man in the head with his fist and the subject fell and hit his head on the street, after which the involved suspect fled on foot from the area. The subject was transported to the Marin General Hospital Emergency Room for medical treatment. An Assault/Battery report was taken and there is further investigation pending.

• A resident of the 80 block of Corte Lenosa reported his right passenger side window was broken on his vehicle while it was parked in the area of his residence and construction tools were taken.  It appeared the window was smashed with a tool from the bed of the truck. Taken were miscellaneous power tools and a checkbook. The loss was estimated at $450. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• A resident in the 10 block of Gretchen Place reported the theft of two kayaks and two paddles.  The items were taken from an alley way between two houses, from an unlocked portion of the yard. The missing items are valued at approximately $700.  Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A business in the Corte Madera Town Center reported an attempted theft at the store. They advised that three female subjects came into the store and went upstairs. One subject went to a clothing area and took a jacket off the rack, eventually going into a fitting room with it.  When she left that room, the jacket could not be found. One employee contacted the subject, and saw she had put that jacket on under her own jacket. The property was returned by the subject. All the subjects then left the area in a vehicle.

• A business in The Village Shopping Center reported six pairs of sunglasses were stolen. Taken was two pair of Bvlglari, one pair of Chanel, one pair of Persol, one pair of Mosley Tribes, and a pair of Tiffany. The approximate total loss is $2,400. A Grand Theft report was taken and there is possible follow-up pending.

• A Corte Madera resident reported his bicycle was stolen three days ago, but that he had not previously reported it.  He advised that he was currently at Safeway, located in the Corte Madera Town Center, and saw a subject who was in possession of his bicycle. He and the subject were in a verbal confrontation over ownership of the bicycle. He stated he had the bicycle's keys with him. Officers responded and contacted both parties. It was determined the subject, a Larkspur man, was in possession of stolen property. He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail.

• A resident of the 30 block of Elizabeth Circle reported two bicycles were taken from their open garage. One is an orange Santa Cruz Blur and the second is a silver Specialized FSR men's 24 speed, for a total loss of approximately $4,000. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A resident in the 50 block of El Portal Drive reported $1,300 in cash is missing from the residence. She advised no one has been in the residence but her and her husband.  There were no signs of forced entry. A Residential Burglary report was taken for documentation.

• A resident of the 30 block of Creekside Court reported she had been the victim of a credit card fraud. There have been nine purchases at QVC online using her credit card account. The total loss amount is unknown at this time.  A Fraud report was taken.

• A Novato resident, who is an employee of a business in the 1500 block of Casa Buena Drive, reported a narcotic medication was stolen out of her purse, which was in her locker, while she was at work. A Theft report taken and there is possible further action pending.

• A Petaluma resident reported that while his vehicle was parked in the lot at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal, someone removed his bicycle from the top of his vehicle. The bicycle is a Niner men's mountain bike, aluminum color, valued at approximately $3,000. A Grand Theft report was taken. Later, an informant advised TCPA who the involved subject was and where the bicycle was currently located. Officers responded to an address in San Rafael and the bicycle was recovered there.  The involved subject had fled the area on TCPA arrival.  There is further action pending.

• A resident of the 200 block of Hawthorne Avenue reported a loud juvenile party, with subjects outside, at a neighboring residence. Officers responded and contacted the resident and persons attending the party. A Larkspur juvenile male was issued a Notice of Violation for the Social Host Ordinance and all juveniles were turned over to parents or responsible adults.

• A resident of the 900 block of Via Casitas reported someone entered the mail room of the condominium complex and stole her son's silver Trek bicycle, unknown value. A Residential Burglary report was taken for documentation.

• A resident of the 10 block of Rich Street reported via 9-1-1 that a female driver drove through the property and hit his car and motorcycle. He stated the female driver is possibly intoxicated as he can smell alcohol on her breath. The driver was contacted and a Santa Rosa woman was taken into custody for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol. After she was processed at the Station, she was booked at the Marin County Jail.

During this two week time period, the Twin Cities Police had 658 calls for service. This included two calls related to accidents with minor injuries, six hit and run accidents and 14 property damage only accidents.  There were eight auto burglaries, five commercial burglaries and eight residential burglaries.  There were two calls related to Driving while Intoxicated, resulting in two arrests.
