Doctor Involved in Road Rage Shooting Incident Posts Bail, Arraignment Set for Next Month

Novato physician Dr. James Stephen Simon, 71, was booked in the Marin County jail for assault with a firearm on a person, Central Marin Police Authority Police Chief Todd Cusimano said.

A Corte Madera man arrested for allegedly shooting a Tiburon man after a road rage incident Thursday morning has posted bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Marin County Superior Court Aug. 4, his attorney said.

Novato physician Dr. James Stephen Simon, 71, was booked in the Marin County jail for assault with a firearm on a person, Central Marin Police Authority Police Chief Todd Cusimano said.

The shooting happened around 10:40 a.m. in the driveway of Simon's home in the 5000 block of Paradise Drive.

The 69-year-old Tiburon man, who has not been identified, was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Marin General Hospital.  He had surgery was in serious condition as of Thursday, Cusimano said.

The two men were braking and speeding in their vehicles for a mile or two along Paradise Drive after one of them cut the other off, Cusimano said.

Simon allegedly pulled into his driveway, and when he closed the garage door it struck the hood of the Tiburon man's vehicle, police said.

Simon allegedly got a .350-caliber revolver, fired it once into a hillside and twice at the Tiburon man, according to police. Cusimano said Simon had a license for the gun.

Simon's attorney Charles Dresow said Friday morning Simon "is a wonderful man and a wonderful doctor."

Simon has given physical exams to pilots at Marin County Airport at Gnoss Field in Novato, airport manager Dan Jensen said.

"I think he's terrific," Jensen said.
