Driver Leads CHP on Highway 101 Chase

Driver was spotted speeding through a CalTrans construction zone.

California Highway Patrol officers in Marin County stopped one driver who didn't slow for the cone zone. The driver led officers on a wild chase between Rodeo Avenue and the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza before he stopped, however.

Ross Piccinini, 22, of San Francisco, was spotted at about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday by CHP officers driving in a lane of Southbound Highway 101 near Rodeo Avenue that had been blocked off for construction by CalTrans. There were reportedly workers in the construction zone at the time.

Officers attempted to catch up with Piccinini's 2011 BMW 3 series sedan, which was clocked at between 75-80 mph as it passed two other CHP units. Officers pursued Piccinini, who was weaving between lanes and finally stopped him at the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza. Piccinini was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested.
