Cold, Hurt Driver Rescued From Cliff in Marin County

The accident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, when a hiker spotted the vehicle just west of Panoramic Highway, Battalion Chief Mike Giannini said.

A driver was rescued from a steep hillside Saturday evening after his vehicle went off the side of Muir Woods Road in a crash, according to a Marin County fire battalion chief.

The accident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, when a hiker spotted the vehicle just west of Panoramic Highway, Battalion Chief Mike Giannini said.

Fire crews found the driver of the vehicle about 150 feet over the side of the road, in pain and very cold, Giannini said.

Firefighters cut through brush with chain saws to reach the driver and place him in a rescue basket.

He was then pulled back up to the road with a rope and pulleys, Giannini said. He was taken to Marin General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The road was wet at the time of the accident, Giannini noted.
