Employees Douse Small Fire at Win Cup Plant

Single-alarm incident started at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Corte Madera manufacturing facility near DMV.

A small fire was extinguished Saturday morning by quick-acting employees at a plastics manufacturing plant in Corte Madera, a fire official said.

The fire department received a call at 9:15 a.m. that a large block of crushed Styrofoam cups had caught fire in a bailing machine at Win Cup, a plant at 195 Tamal Vista Drive just west of Highway 101, according to Corte Madera Fire Battalion Chief Paul Hager.

The bailing unit caught fire as defective cups were being compacted in the machinery, but employees grabbed fire extinguishers and handled the situation on their own, Hager said.
