Flare Might Have Sparked Fire

Investigators believe a roadside flare might have been the cause of a grass fire on June 14 that forced the evacuation of several homes along Via La Cumbre.

A roadside flare is believed to have started the June 14 fire along Southbound Highway 101 that endangered hillside homes and damaged structures.

Investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of the grass fire, according to Larkspur Fire Chief Bob Sinnott.

Twin Cities Police evacuated several residences on Via La Cumbre and closed roadways to non-emergency traffic. Additionally, the California Highway Patrol shut down lanes along Southbound 101 so that fire crews could operate safely.
