Jeffrey Boyce, who was captured at the Bon Air Shopping Center after a long chase Monday, allegedly was heading toward the Russian consulate to seek asylum.

The Central Marin Police are looking deeper into the past of Jeffrey Boyce, who was arrested Monday evening after attempting to carjack a woman at the Bon Air Shopping Center.

The Central Marin Police Authority received a call reporting an attempted carjacking at 6:51 p.m., where a suspect pointed a rifle at a woman's head. He ran away, and police found him nearby. The woman was identified as Tina Humphrey of Mill Valley.

"We got the call and Central Marin Police officers responded quickly. This is a situation we've trained for and it was almost technically perfect," Central Marin Police Captain Jim Shirk said.

The manhunt began at 4:30 p.m. Monday when Boyce carjacked a man in Rohnert Park and drove off in a BMW. Boyce was reported to be heavily armed and possibly mentally ill.

"I don't know why, between all the freeway exits between Novato and San Francisco, he took the Drake exit," Shirk said.

San Francisco Police suspected Boyce was heading toward the Russian consulate to seek asylum, according to a KPIX report. Police who interviewed his mother indicated Boyce seemed to sympathize with the accused Boston bombers.

Boyce is also a person of interest in an Oregon homicide that happened Sunday.
