The gun that an 18-year-old high school student allegedly had turned out to be a BB gun, police said.

By Bay City News Service:

An 18-year-old San Andreas High School student was arrested Wednesday for allegedly possessing a BB gun on the school's campus.

The Central Marin Police Authority in Larkspur said it received a call from the continuation school at 599 William Ave. around 10:15 a.m. that a male student was on campus with a gun in his waistband, Lt. Theo Mainaris said.

The first officer on the scene located and detained the student, Mainaris said.

Additional officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the school to protect Redwood High School and the surrounding neighborhood, Mainaris said.

Surrounding schools were notified but not locked down, police said.

Police found the replica firearm in nearby vegetation and the student was arrested on suspicion of possession of a BB gun on school grounds, Mainaris said.
