Inmate Found Unresponsive at Marin County Jail, Police Investigate Death

The 29-year-old inmate was found unresponsive at 4:25 p.m. March 1, San Rafael fire personnel performed CPR, and the man was pronounced deceased at 4:58 p.m., sheriff's officials said.

An inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at Marin County Jail on Friday in San Rafael, where paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive him, Marin County sheriff's officials said in a statement.

The death was being investigated by the Novato Police Department and the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner in accordance with standard protocol, Marin County sheriff's official said.

The man's name, hometown and the charges he was being held for were not released.

Marin County sheriff's officials referred questions to Novato police, where a designated lieutenant was not available to comment for this report Monday afternoon.

The Marin County Jail is about six miles north of Larkspur and Corte Madera.
