Is Your Child Safe In The Car?

CHP offers a free Child Safety Seat Inspection on Saturday in Corte Madera.

Congratulations on the new addition to the family. You're ready to become parents, you've done your research and bought just about everything you could possibly need, including a child safety seat for those trips to Grandma's house.

But do you know how to use the child seat correctly? A surprising number of parents don't know, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers will be on hand Saturday to help you figure it out.

The free Child Safety Seat Inspection Event will be held Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marin Area CHP office at 53 San Clemente Drive in Corte Madera.

Officers will be available to inspect car seats for proper installation as well as possible defects or recalls, and to provide the public with information regarding safety and state law. A new child safety restraint law went into effect on January 1, 2012.

RSVP to (415) 924-1100.

This is a great service the CHP provides. I hope new parents and grandparents will take advantage of this.

Grandparents should also use this opportunity to make sure the car seat fits properly in their car.

I think this is a great service. I would be confident the seat was installed safely.

This is one gesture of more government we can all get behind.
