King Tide's High Water Closes Hwy 101 Off-Ramp Near Mill Valley
The Shoreline Highway off-ramp is expected to re-open around 1:30 p.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.
A U.S. Highway 101 off-ramp near Mill Valley is closed because of high-tide flooding, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP estimates that the Highway 1/Shoreline Highway exit will be closed until around 1:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service has alerted Bay Area residents about particularly high tides this week. The phenomenon, known as "king tides," occurs when a special alignment of the sun, moon and earth creates a particularly strong gravitational pull.
Bridget Reynolds, senior regional director at the teen travel company Adventures Cross-Country, located on Redwood Highway near the closed off-ramp, said the bay water levels outside her office are high.
"We had some high tides on our back lawn area," she said. Her company is on the second floor, but she said Seaplane Adventures on the ground floor put out sandbags, and she can see the residents of nearby houseboats hiking up their pant legs and taking off their shoes as they walk around.
A Southern Marin Fire Protection District firefighter said he is not aware of any other problems related to the high tides.
