Labor Day DUI Checkpoint Nabs One

CHP arrests one driver, cites three others.

Only one arrest was made during a CHP sobriety/driver license checkpoint on Labor Day evening in Greenbrae.

The California High Patrol screened 361 vehicles at the checkpoint set up along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, near Eliseo Drive, between 7 p.m. and midnight.

“Our priority was to screen vehicles with minimal delay to motorists in the area. We waved a large number of vehicles through in order to keep traffic flowing,” said CHP Sergeant Marcus Bartholomew.

Officers issued three citations for license violations: one unlicensed driver, one driver with a license suspended for DUI, and a third driver who was driving on a learners permit without a licensed driver in the vehicle.

Six drivers performed field sobriety tests to check their sobriety, with one of those drivers being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“We had an overwhelming number of compliments from motorists who thanked us for staffing the checkpoint. We met a lot of people coming home from Labor Day travels who shared stories of their weekend with us, if even for just a few seconds. It was a positive experience, and my officers enjoyed connecting with those people,” Bartholomew said.
