Locals Enthusiastically Ring In New Year

But it was still a fairly quiet night for police.

The cheering from an enthusiastic crowd at the Silver Peso could be heard for blocks away on Magnolia Avenue. Many restaurants were packed with folks who wanted a nice dinner before going to their parties. Even the Lark Theater saw a good crowd for the last showing of the night of We Bought A Zoo.

It wasn't a bad night for the Twin Cities Police, who reported only one person was arrested for driving under the influence.

Crews for the Marin Municipal Water District didn't have a chance to celebrate as they attended to a pipe on Larkspur Landing Circle. The work, which closed down one lane of traffic Saturday night, sent water gently flowing across the street across from the movie theater.

Before the clock struck midnight, there were a few reported sounds of small "booms." That was just a warmup for the real explosions of the fireworks display in San Francisco that could be heard across the bay.
