UPDATE: Manhunt For Carjacker Ends In Greenbrae

Mill Valley woman foils a carjacking attempt by Jeffrey Boyce, who had led police on a chase that started earlier in Rohnert Park.

A man who carjacked another man at gunpoint in Rohnert Park on Monday afternoon was captured a few hours later in Greenbrae at the Bon Air Shopping Center and police seized rifles and a large stock of ammo in his possession, police said.

The Central Marin Police Authority received a call reporting an attempted carjacking at 6:51 p.m., where a suspect pointed a rifle at a woman's head. He ran away, and police found him nearby. The woman was identified as Tina Humphrey of Mill Valley.

The man was identified with a flyer from San Francisco police as Jeffery Boyce and was confirmed by the victim. Boyce had been reported as mentally ill and in possession of firearms.

The bizarre chain of events began 4:30 p.m., at the UPS Store located at Golf Course Drive. Police say Boyce approached a man as he exited the store and got into his vehicle, a 2000 BMW 538I, police said.

Boyce, who turned 30 years old today, walked up to the vehicle, pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and tapped the window with it. He ordered the man to exit the vehicle, and got into the car.

Boyce demanded the man get into the passenger seat, but when the man refused, Boyce allegedly ordered him back into the driver's seat, and Boyce got into the passenger seat before ordering the man to drive him to the nearest church.

The  man drove Boyce to Saint Elizabeth Seton, but no one was there, so police say that Boyce ordered the man to drive him back to Mountain Shadows Plaza.

"Once at the plaza, Boyce got out of the car and threatened the victim by telling him he was going to hurt him," a Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety press release stated. "Boyce then removed several rifles from the rear of a truck he drove to the parking lot originally and put them in the victim's vehicle. The victim was able to get away and Boyce fled west in the victim's vehicle."

Police issued an all-points bulletin and received information from the San Francisco Police Department that reported Boyce as mentally ill and in possession of several firearms.

News tips from Patch readers reported police stationed at off-ramps throughout Marin along southbound Highway 101, including Rowland Boulevard and Alameda del Prado in Novato and Seminary Drive in Mill Valley.

Rohnert Park police searched Boyce's truck and found several hundred bullets, six 30-round magazines, a load-bearing vest and a loaded rifle.

Police found the original victim's car nearby with several guns inside.

Anyone with information about the case has been asked to call Rohnert Park police at (707) 584-2630.
